I am setting up my "spare" tool head for 45 long colt rounds.

I plan to load 185 and 200 gn lead semi wad cutter swaged bullets.

I have loaded 250 gn 45LC bullets for years with either Trail Boss and for the past 5 years my cast 20:1 bullets with FFFg black powder.

I am loading these new loads for a Smith & Wesson Model 25-10 revolver with a 6 inch barrel....and am looking for a 25 yd paper punching load.

Thanks in advance for your valued feedback.

Loading Data & Reloading Procedures / Bullseye Powder Charges for 4 Guns?
« on: October 09, 2012, 10:49:50 am »
I am a fairly recent member of this forum....but not recent to reloading and shooting.  In recent years, most of my shooting has been with off-hand shooting of single shot black powder cartridge rifles.....from 32-40 to 45-70 calibers.  I "mix" my own lead and tin to a 20 to 1 ratio for my cast bullets.  I have been using 2 Star Lube-Sizers for many years.

I recently "acquired" a Star Reloader in 38 spl cal and bought an additional one in 45 acp cal.  These machines have re-kindled my interested in getting my "bullseye" pistols out and blowing the dust off to see if I can still hit the black paper once in a while.  Not that I was ever very competitive....but I always had fun sending lead down range from a classic one-hand position.

I previously used 231 as my powder of choice....but now want to use Bullseye....so I have some questions on the charges that you have found to be a good place to start for the following bullets and guns.  I know there are many threads on this forum containing information that helps on this quest and I have read most all of them to get a starting place for my questions on powder charges.

45 acp.....185 gn Lead SWC.....Colt Series 70 Gold Cup National Match

45 acp......185 gn Lead SWC.....Smith & Wesson Model 25-2

Question: What are my chances that the same powder charge will work for both 45 acp guns?

38 spl......148 gn Lead HBWC...Colt 1960's Vintage Gold Cup National Match

38 spl......148 gn Lead HBWC...Smith & Wesson Model 14-2

Question:  What are the chances that the same powder charge will work for both 38 spl guns?

I am fairly comfortable with the mechanical aspects related to the feeding and ejection issues and spring changes required when working loads.  I need some "wisdom" on the powder charges that you would recommend for Bullsye Powder.  I have a chronograph if you have recommendations on velocity.  My goal is not necessarily to make "one hole" but to rather....keep them all in the black!

Thanks for your participation in this forum.

Star Reloaders / Are Star Reloaders Addictive?
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:19:32 am »
I recently "acquired" a Star Universal from a friend who bought it from a friend...etc.  It was set up for 38 Special and he didn't shoot 38 Special!

After blowing the dust off and giving it a good cleaning and oiling....I discovered I was becoming addicted to this machine and after finding this forum I ended up buying a rebuilt Universal set up for 45 acp as well and now have to blow the dust off my Bullseye pistols so I will have something to shoot up the ammo I'm now producing.....with the new supply of Bullesye powder and small pistol primers I had to go out and buy...not to mention the cases...etc...etc...etc...

By the way, I purchased the rebuilt Universal from Bruce Williams and it is a beauty!  Nice work Bruce.

And thanks to all the fellow "addicts' who provide such a valuable resource for learning the "tricks" for running a Star...and finding the parts that I can buy to feed my new interest.

Star Reloaders / A very friendly welcome....
« on: September 06, 2012, 06:14:42 pm »
I am new to this forum....but not to shooting and reloading.  I recently acquired a Star Reloader and accessories from an old friend and am in the process of "getting to know" my new magnificent machine.

I sent a pm to Bruce Williams (aka rbwillnj) introducing myself and asking a few questions about one of his postings and a few other "new guy on the block" type questions.

He responded via email the same day and sent me a wonderful introduction to the Star Reloaders along with a big welcome and answers to all my questions!

Hats off to Bruce and to the others on this forum.  From reading the mail, it appears to be filled with friends who have a common interest and respect each other.

Thanks for being here and sharing....I think I will hang around.
