Star Reloaders / Re: Timing between Moon indexer and case feeder
« on: July 27, 2014, 10:20:06 pm »
No,   The case should slide into a waiting empty slot in the shell plate.   You probably started out by actuating the case feeder an extra time so that you have one case behind another.

Star Reloaders / Re: Serial Numbers on Lifetyme Dies ?
« on: July 26, 2014, 12:44:51 am »
I have seen quite a few Lifetyme dies with upsidedown roll marks, but I can't say I have ever noticed a serial number on any of them.   I have quite a few in stock, I'll have to take another look.

I have seen some with a Pat. Pend. mark and others without.   I don't believe I have ever seen one with a Patient number indicating they had been granted a Patient.

Star Reloaders / Re: So why was the Progressive made so long?
« on: June 24, 2014, 03:07:06 pm »
I wouldn't say that the Universal superseded the Progressive.   The Universal actually came out within a year or two of the Progressive.   The Progressive continued to be offered through 1980.  It disappeared from the Star price list in 1981.

It wouldn't surprise me if the fate of the Progressive had something to do with the migration of police and Bullseye shooters from revolvers to autoloaders.   Someone more knowledgeable than I would know if the dates coincide.

I offer Ana adapter to mount Lee case feeder tubes and collator.   Take a look at this thread in the want to sell area.   http://www.starreloaders.com/forum/index.php?topic=1735.0

You have a Phelps, a popular Star copy.  It does however have a Star powder magazine. The original Phelps powder magazines had a glass tube that was prone to breakage.

Send him a PM, I think he still offers them.

Star Reloaders / Re: primer feeder misalignment

The angle lever cam is case hardened, not hardened throughout.  i.e. hard on the outside to resist wear, softer on the inside to allow for adjustment.  Similar to Lindy, I use a lead mallet to adjust it.

I did come across a Phelps angle lever cam that was over hardened, and one moderate tap with the lead hammer and it snapped in two.......but never had a problem adjusting a Star angle lever cam.

I use a hot air gun to heat up the Lubesizer and pour out the old lube.

Star Reloaders / Re: Interference in the expander/primer stage
« on: April 27, 2014, 05:01:29 pm »
If it's the machine I'm thinking of, you have a separate taper crimp die.   Make sure you are not crimping the case in the seating step.   In the seating die you should take out any flair caused by the expander, but there is not need to crimp the case in that station.   If you over crimp in the seating station you can cause a bulge in the case which will have an adverse effect on feeding and function.

To adjust the depth of the seating die, I take a sized case which has not been expanded, place it in the seating station, and with the tool head in its lowest position, adjust the seating die down until it touches the case mouth, then back it off slightly.   You will of course have to adjust the bullet seating depth after making this adjustment .

This method of adjusting the seating die only applies if you have a separate crimp die.

Welcome to the forum.  There is lots of great information here, and nice folks as well.   If you browse around the Star History section you will find some posts that can help you narrow the date range for your machine.

Star made very few changes to their reloader during the many years it was in production.  There are no serial numbers or date codes to aid in dating your machine.   So unless you have a receipt from Star, or the newspapers your reloader was originally packed in, there is no way date it with any certainty.   If you post a picture, we might be able to help narrow things down based on the few design changes.

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / Re: WTB: Hulme case feeder for 9mm
« on: March 22, 2014, 08:35:11 am »
Any Hulme case feeder will work for 9MM as long as you have a 9MM top plate.  If you find a case feeder I can supply the 9MM top plate.
