Loading Data & Reloading Procedures / Re: 44 Mag powder Bar
« on: December 08, 2011, 12:38:34 pm »
I know Star sold 5/8" powder slides, I have seen them listed on their price lists, but I have never seen a 5/8" powder slide housing, so it's good to hear that they actually did make them.  .

I'm not surprised that they made them, I just figured that by now I would have seen one.  I have seen plenty of "00" housings converted to 5/8" with spacers.

Actually, "000" and "0000" are Rich Daniels designations.   Star referred to these as 1/2" and 5/8"

I have never seen an OEM 5/8" powder slide housing and I don't think Star made them.  As mentioned before, Rich Daniels does make and sell them.  Star sold 5/16" spacers to convert a "00" powder slide housing to a 5/8" housing.

Star Reloaders / Re: BRASS POWDER HOUSING SPACER
« on: December 08, 2011, 10:18:27 am »
Actually, I think Star only made aluminum spacers.....but

The spacers to convert a "00" powder slide housing to a 5/8" housing are .3125" or 5/16"

A "00" powder slide housing is nominally 5/16", so 5/16" plus 5/16" equals 10/16" which is 5/8"

I would say that you could get by with a 1/2" housing, and a 5/8" housing might be a better choice.   Rich Daniels makes 5/8" Powder Slide Housings and 5/8" Adjustable Powder slides.  I make a 1/2" Powder Slide that accepts Hornady bushings.  The Powder slide kit includes spacers to convert your 00 powder slide housing to a 1/2" housing.

Hornady's largest bushing drops 15.5 grains of 2400.  With no bushing in place the 1/2" hole in the 1/2" powder slide will drop about 21.5 grains of 2400

I would have to say that the vast majority of Lifetyme dies of all calibers that have passed through my hands have a satin chrome plated finish.

I have had a few that are not chrome plated, but they are the exception.

Thanks Tony,

Yes,  I make both Primer Magazines and Primer Pickup tubes.   The ones that I make are designed to hold at least 100 primers.   I can also make the standard length versions.

Stars Want to Sell/Want to Buy / WTS Taper Crimp Dies
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:08:43 pm »
I have some extra Taper Crimp Dies for sale.

From Left to Right in the picture below

I have four original Star 38 Special Taper Crimp Dies.  Selling for $40 each plus shipping.

I have a taper crimp die that I have been using for 38 Super.  I think this is a 38 Special die which has been shortened so it can be used for 38 Super.  This would also work as a Case Kicker Friendly 38 special Taper Crimp Die.  The price for this die is $25 plus shipping.

I have a 40 S&W taper crimp die that I bought from Bill Cunningham many years ago.  I think it is original Star, but I can't be sure.  The price for this die is $35 plus shipping.

If you are intersted, send me a Private Message, first come first serve.

Bruce

All of the Standard 38 Special Taper Crimp Dies are Sold

I'll take one of the .401 dies.
