Star Reloaders / Star Univeral conversion
« on: March 23, 2014, 11:02:06 am »
I have a Star Universal set up for 38 Spec.  What would be a decent price for a 45 ACP conversion (Tool head with dies, shell plate and LP priming system)?  And, who would be the "go to" person to purchase it? -- Thanks.

Star Reloaders / Custom Potter Engineering Die
« on: August 22, 2011, 12:22:27 pm »
This isn't a "Star" related comment, but I wanted to let the members here know about a sizing die and shellplate that fc60 made for me recently.  It was a reproduction of a Potter Engineering die and plate in 41 magnum.  I had purchased a Potter 41 seater die, but needed the sizer and shellplate. His reproductions were nearly identical to the originals, but I believe superior in quality.  I am proud to own it, and would highly recommend Dave for this kind of custom die work.  He was great to work with, communicated regularly, and certainly a knowledgeable machinist.

Thank you Dave.  I'm keeping your e-mail address on "speed dial" if you don't mind.

Jon.

Don't know if there is anyone interested...There is a "Pat. Pending" Star on E-bay right now.  Looks very clean / good condition (I have no horse in this race, gentlemen).  Just passing along the info.

Star Reloaders / A bit off topic - Question
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:07:42 pm »
I am looking for information about another kind of vintage reloader.  I am hoping one of the learned members of this forum can point me in the right direction or put me in contact with the right person...

I'm looking for a Potter Duplex reloader.  I understand they can be difficult to come by, but I am interested in possibly purchasing one. Anyone with information about them, please let me know.

Thanks, and sorry for the off-topic question.  PM me for my contact info.  Jon.

Star Lubricator & Resizers / Magma power cord replacement
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:33:40 am »
FYI...Just ran across this during a web search.  If you use a Magma heater base for your Star and need to replace the power cord (melt / cut it, etc.), these look like the same cords.  Made by "Power First".  Different wire gages and prices are listed.

Star Reloaders / Case kicker problem
« on: March 15, 2011, 11:05:36 am »
I have a (Brandes) case kicker installed on my Star.  The press is set up for 38 spec.  I am encountering a problem with it...I have adjusted it per the instructions, and have tested it repeatedly with empty and loaded cases.  Once adjusted and working properly, I tighten it down.  However, once I begin reloading (after approx 5 - 10 loaded rounds) the kicker moves out of adjustment causing (at best), a case that will momentarily bind and then launch across my loading bench, or (at worse), misaligns the cam angle and the fork finger causing the fork finger to bend. NOT GOOD!

I think the problem lies with the screw that secures the unit down to the post.  Despite my attempts to tighten it, it still must be moving!  Any suggestions would  be appreciated.  Thanks.
